The AZ Museum
A one-artist museum, Anatoly Zverev, grown out of a private collection. Its value is not scale — the rooms are few and the works small — but the way of showing: an exhibition here is built as a statement, with sequence and light, rather than hung along the walls, and in Moscow that is rare. About Zverev himself an honest word is owed: an uneven artist, part of whose legacy rests on the speed of the hand rather than on depth, and his best things have to be picked out. The museum does not conceal this, which is why it is believed.

About the museum
Opened in 2015 on the collection of Natalia Opaleva. It is named from the artist’s signature — “AZ”.
The building
A small town house rebuilt for a museum: three levels, a staircase, even light. The architecture here works for the things and does not show itself.
Good to know
There is no permanent display: the museum lives by exhibitions, and one visit shows one cut through the holding. It is worth looking up what is on before setting out.

Of interest to children
Expressive drawing says nothing to children without explanation. Better to come without them.
On now
21 November 2025 — 4 October 2026
The whole Zverev holding laid out at once, with no route built through it: the line between store and display has been removed on purpose. The museum’s first project in its rebuilt space and the sum of ten years of Natalia Opaleva’s collecting.
